Raising A Reader: Write On

One of Southwest Human Development’s literacy experts will teach parents how to help develop their child's literacy skills. This workshop will focus on ways parents can support their child becoming a writer. Parents will learn how writing is a powerful way to communicate and ways their child can be an author. Facilitators will introduce activities to develop hand and finger muscles that children need to be able to write. They will discuss the importance of having children tell stories, making different writing utensils accessible, how to showing interest in your child’s writing can support development. This workshop is designed for children ages birth to five plus a parent/caregiver and includes story time, an art activity, singing, and dancing. Each child will receive a new book to take home.

This program is for children ages birth through 5 and their adult caregiver(s). Admission into the Museum is FREE for pre-registered children and one adult for each child. Regular Museum admission will apply for any additional adults or accompanying children over the age of five. Please plan on arriving at least 15 minutes prior to the class to get checked in prior to the start of the program. Late admissions will not be allowed. Space is very limited. Each child will receive a new book to take home. www.swhd.org.
